In today's world it seems that everyone is on some type diet and trying to lose weight. Some people are trying to lose 10 pounds and other people are trying to lose 100 pounds or more of body fat. No one is happy with the way they look. And every one of these people that are trying to lose weight weight always tell me that they are eating right and exercising. But my question is Why are they so fat if they are eating right? The problem is that all of these people are taking information that they have saw someplace and the information may be good but they are not following it word for word. They are making little changes here and there to make it suitable for their likes. So that they can eat the little sweet treats that they love. But these treats are making them fat.
So the problem is that everyone is just doing whatever they want and are under the illusion that they are eating right. I will explain to you exactly what I mean by sharing a conversation that I recently have had with one of my longtime friends. He was complaining that he hasn't been able to lose weight. He also told me that he was eating perfectly clean but he was still fat and tired most of the time. So I asked him what he ate throughout the course of a day and he shared his daily menu.
For breakfast my friend would have four large eggs, with about five or six pieces of bacon and some hashbrowns and two pieces of whole wheat toast with lots of butter. Then later on for lunch he would have an Italian hoagie and he made sure to tell me that he would get a whole wheat roll instead of the white flour roll, not that this made much of a difference, and at some point in the day he would have a peanut butter and and jelly sandwich and he made sure to tell me that he had whole-wheat bread for the sandwiches and that the peanut butter had lots of good healthy protein, then for dinner he would have a big thick juicy steak and three large potatoes and a salad with thousand island dressing. For desert he would eat a large slice of pie or cheese cake. And then later on during the night he might have a bowl of cereal and he was very proud that he would eat raisin bran cereal thinking that that was super healthy and good for you, but I guess he did not realize that it had a ton of sugar in there; he forgot to read the label.
And of course every evening he looked forward to having his wine but you would have two or three glasses of wine, not just one. And then in the evening before bedtime he would usually enjoy a nice large bowl of ice cream. My friend admitted that the ice cream right before bedtime was not really a good idea for weight loss but they only did this three or four nights a week. So he thought that he deserved a nice treat for following such a clean healthy nutritious diet throughout the week.
Now holistic medicine and alternative medicine is my specialty so each and every day for the past 20 years I have helped people improve their health by improving their diet plans, nutrition plans and getting them on a diet that would not only help them lose weight but increase their overall health. So I asked my friend if he would like some help and he said yes of course. And the first thing I told him was all of that good healthy whole wheat bread that he was eating is a starchy carbohydrate and when it's metabolized by the body it turns into sugar. And for the peanut butter and jelly sandwich, not only did the bread turn into sugar but the Jelly had so much sugar in it it was a catastrophe. And then he was also not happy to be told that the peanut butter is also a carbohydrate that turns in the sugar once it enters the metabolism process of the body. So basically his peanut butter and jelly sandwich turned out to be a triple-decker threat of sugar sugar and more sugar. Then we discussed his breakfast now I am OK with having eggs for breakfast I happen to like eggs they are fantastic protein and an excellent source of good healthy fats but when you're eating two slices of toast again you're adding sugar into the program and when you add the extra fruit like a banana it’s also extra sugar.
So again at breakfast time he is having sugar, sugar and more sugar. For his dinner I was totally happy with him having a nice juicy steak but having a potato and having a glass of wine... well let me correct that he was having three glasses of wine not one glass of wine one glass of wine. If you're following the proper diet I'm OK with that if you don't have any issues with alcoholism. But if you're having a nice dinner with some potatoes and lots of wine you are loading your body with sugar once again. And please let’s not even discuss how much sugar is in pie! And the finishing touches of his nutritional catastrophe is the bedtime snack three or four nights a week eating his delicious ice cream. Which of course we know is sugar!
Finally I was able to get my friend to acknowledge that his diet was not so perfect. And that he was not eating healthy, He could not wait to get off the phone with me. I tried to offer to him alternatives that were healthy and just as delicious as the meals he currently enjoyed.
I was giving him sugar free versions of everything. I could tell that he listened with half of one ear and really didn't want to know the information that I was giving him. This actually upset me quite a bit because all he ever does is complain to me that he cannot lose weight and here I am giving him all of the proper information that he needs to lose weight and even improve his health at the same time.
But he doesn't want to listen to me because he really doesn't want to change. I was kind of disgusted and I told him plain flat out that if you're not going to do what's necessary to change your body by making the necessary changes in your diet please do not complain about your being fat every time we are together or every time we talk on the phone.
I can't believe how many people think that they can keep on doing the same thing over and over every day, eat the same thing over and over every day and expect their body to change just because they mentally want to change their body and lose fat and become more fit, trim and sexy. There was a slogan that was circulating around that if you want to look delicious you cannot eat delicious but that's not true. There are plenty of good healthy great testing recipes that you can eat all day long that taste good but they are good for you and it will help you look good. You just have to put forth some effort to eat them. I admit it's a whole lot easier to stop at the burger joint in the mall and get two or three cheeseburgers with extra cheese, extra bacon and a side of bacon cheese fries and then wash that down with a nice soda or milk shake. But you can just as easily order a turkey sandwich with extra lettuce and tomato and even some burgers and if you like a little bit of mayonnaise or some hot spicy mustard. You can even order one or two hot-dogs I eat them without the bread which is perfect for losing weight or you could just eat them with a half of the hot-dog bun. And yes you can put onions, sauerkraut and even relish on this if you like. Instead of having an extra large regular soda why not have an extra large diet soda or a bottle of water would be even better.
But I myself enjoy a nice small bottle of diet soda almost every day. So it's really all about changing the food that you are eating. It's not about depriving yourself and trying to adhere to a super starvation type of diet because these type of diet will only backfire on you at the end. You will eventually gain back all the weight that you have just lost. It's all about making the right choices. It's all about doing some research and finding a plan that is simple for you to follow. A weight-loss plan that you can follow in the real world. Lots of these diets look fantastic on paper but when you have a job and are working 12 hours each day it's kind of difficult to follow a really strict diet. It's difficult not to eat anything all day. For most of us we need to eat every three or four hours. This is because we need to constantly feed our brain a little bit of glucose and this works to keep us mentally sharp and prevents us from feeling fatigued and tired. And my diet is one that that consists of a little bit of everything.
Everything in moderation is perfect for the majority of people. Now some people are super-sensitive to carbohydrates. Some people might have diabetes and have to really manage their carbs like I do. And some of us might have issues with hormones especially females. Lots of women once they pass the age of 35 or even 40 years old have a very very difficult time losing weight because of the hormonal changes that are happening in their body. And if you have had a child that will make it even more difficult to lose weight. That's why our weight-loss program is not a one-size-fits-all program. We take into consideration your age, your level of physical activity, your occupation and even your health conditions if you have high blood pressure, diabetes or hyperthyroidism. All of that information we combined with our over 25 years of clinical experience and design a weight-loss program specifically for you. So if you are ready to lose weight and get healthy I would be glad to help you achieve your weight loss and wellness goals.
